When my Auntie died last year ,nobody wanted her computer, so by default I inherited it and an accordion. Having no interest in computers I had to find the ON button, so here I am ...hooked.
Grandma Annie Washington left a piece of paper listing her known relatives and a handful of sepia photographs, [some with their heads cut off !] By piecing together odd letters, bills etc.One-name Geneologists followed up with their greater knowledge and added to the list .
There are over 200 Roverys ,Henry Robrough, rector of St leonards, Eastcheap and scribe to the Synode of Westminster.Google him for sermons of thanks for being spared the plague of London.Cousins who served and died in the Royal Navy,a Speaker of the House of Commons,a Lord of the treasury,a Prime Minister, rectors and explorers!
Stephen Roborough was rector of,and is buried in, Ardingly church sussex.,A host of Sopers and yet to find the Washingtons [some in Australia]from before Somers town, St Pancras Old Churchand the Isle of Man.
Where my Grandma Rovery was buried, behind the altar was painted the tree of life, maybe a message to go searching, who knows? As an only child of an only child I really didn't expect to find much, after a couple of weeks a relative from New Zealand and another in Canada have been in touch .
It's not all squeaky clean, there's a double murderer and several unwed mothers, but all part of my History. I hope you enjoy browsing, not all the relatives are on my tree yet so do get in touch if you think there may be a link. Please sign the guest book too.
Good hunting ....Lindsey
A big thankyou to all of you who helped to find my cousin Marilyn after 50 years , of course we're both only 21 !
